Edmas 2024: Christmas In 9 Minutes (And 4 Seconds)

WELP, It’s that time of year again, isn’t it?! There were, astoundingly, STILL more songs I hadn’t done yet (can you believe it took me this long to get to “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas”?!) and I got an idea for another silly original, so… here we are! I filmed just about everything during the recording process so there will be videos for each song! I had a great time making this (potentially last) Christmas EP and I hope you enjoy it.

Recorded and mixed at The ‘Berger Joint, Rochester, NY, October-November 2024. “Unanswered Questions” written by Ed Klingenberger.

Edmas 2023: Christmas In 6 Minutes (And 3 Seconds)

Sooooo I lied. I’m back with another holiday EP! There were more songs to cover/butcher that I didn’t get to yet (can you believe I hadn’t done “It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas” yet?!)… and I also thought of a new way to dole them out (one song each week on YouTube)… so here we are! I kept the proceedings in the family (quite literally) and recorded the vast majority of this year’s batch in October. This was a fun little EP to make and I hope you enjoy it.

Recorded and mixed at The ‘Berger Joint, Rochester, NY, October-November 2023. Additional vocals in “It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas”: Karen and Tom Klingenberger. Additional vocals in “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing”: Rob and Sarah Klingenberger. Piano in “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing”: Rob Klingenberger. Rob’s piano recorded at Greece United Methodist Church, Rochester, NY, November 2023.

Edmas 2021: Christmas In 7 Minutes (And 33 Seconds)

It’s that time of year again! Another weird year calls for another Christmas EP! Like last year, I got the jump on this one early – all of the instruments were done before Halloween! But there are two noted differences this time around. One, I kept things completely in-house – what you hear is all me and only me. Two, I included an original – “Hey It’s Christmas (Yeah We Know)”, designed to be the dumbest holiday song ever written. I’d like to think I succeeded in this front, but you ultimately make the call there. Let me know if you think I make the worst Christmas song ever!

Before I bring the tunes, an announcement: This is my 15th annual Christmas EP… and also my last. It’s been fun, but I think 15 straight years is enough. I won’t take any of this down and you’ll always have access to every EP at the Edmas tab at the top of the page. I hope you’ve enjoyed 15 years of holiday nonsense from me. I’ll be back in 2022 with one final holiday project – a full album, released as Distinct Kicking Motion, entitled “Ed’s Public Domain Christmas Spectacular”!

Recorded and mixed at The ‘Berger Joint, Rochester NY, October-November 2021. “Hey It’s Christmas (Yeah We Know)” written by Ed Klingenberger.

Edmas 2020: Christmas In 7 Minutes (And 20 Seconds)

Another year, another Christmas EP! 2020 has been weird for sure, but we still somehow managed to get group vocals into this batch! Instead of bringing people over to me, I sent clips and detailed instructions, then waited for people to send me their tracks. Also, because we’re all spending a lot more time at home, I got the jump on this one early – all of the instruments were recorded before Halloween! This was another fun EP to make and I hope you enjoy it.

Recorded and mixed at The ‘Berger Joint, Rochester NY, October-November 2020. Additional vocals/yelling: Ed, Rob Klingenberger, Sarah Klingenberger, Steve Begy, Malcolm Begy, Warren Begy, Adam Donnelly, Brigid Harrigan, Wilson Ng, Brian Wood, and Matt Ferrara.

Edmas 2019: Christmas In 8 Minutes

santaball.pngWe’ve made it! Another year is in the books, so it’s time for yet another Christmas EP! This one was fun to make… and a bit of a workout, too. The theme this year wasn’t readily apparent when I just looked at the songs I picked, but it emerged as I was putting it together. Since two of the four songs don’t really have a whole lot going for them, the name of the game wound up being SPEED. In terms of tempos, this is quite possibly the fastest batch I’ve ever made. The click track was set at over 300 beats per minute for two of them… Enjoy!

Nuttin’ for Christmas

Cameron, Jake, and Jeremy were recorded at The Cole House, Clarence Center, NY, November 2019.

Edmas 2018: Christmas In 7 Minutes (And 21 Seconds)

santaball.png Happy December! It’s the time of year where I post new Christmas recordings for your listening… pleasure? Sure, we’ll go with that. For the third consecutive year, this batch has a theme. This time around, the theme centers around a single songwriter – every song I recorded this year was either written or co-written by Johnny Marks. I had to go a little obscure for a couple of these but two others will be well-known to you almost immediately. Also, I decided to go back and revisit the old friend that started me on this path. Most of the annual “traditions” are here, but I replaced the layered guitar solo with a nod to a seminal punk band with the first song. If you would like cover art, I’m using this picture for it. Enjoy!

Edmas 2017: Christmas In 8 Minutes (And 9 Seconds)

santaball.png At long last, the wait is over. Time for this year’s Christmas EP! I was more prepared than usual this time around – This year’s songs were actually picked last year. Since I enjoyed the themed batch then, I decided to do it again this year (and next year, too – you’ll find out then). This year’s theme: Presents. Three of the four songs have “I Want” in the title and the fourth is the old chestnut that I somehow hadn’t touched until this, the tenth(!) batch. All the hallmarks are here, just waiting for you to find them. Enjoy!

I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas

All I Want for Christmas Is You

All I Want for Christmas Is My Two Front Teeth

The 12 Days of Christmas

Edmas 2016: Christmas In 11 Minutes (And 24 Seconds)

santaball.pngWell, it’s that time of year again, isn’t it?! This year gives us the new longest batch I’ve ever done (over a full minute longer than 2014) and a theme – songs from movies and TV shows. This theme meant I wound up playing the most difficult tunes I’ve ever tackled in these annual holiday projects – I have the charts and the Guitar Pro file to prove it. The end result, though, was well worth the effort. The annual “traditions” are all there, though the layered guitar bit is a little different this time around. Enjoy!

Edmas 2015: Christmas in 7 Minutes

santaball.pngWell, judging by the calendar on my computer, it’s about that time of year again. MORE CHRISTMAS RECORDINGS! This is my eighth year in a row making these little EPs and it’s been fun every time. This year, though, I made this batch a lot earlier than usual. I guess it was a subconscious decision to make December as stress-free as possible… But hey – I’m not complaining. The standard “traditions” are all in place, including the new gang vocal bit. We took that to the next level this year – twenty-three people pitched in. Enjoy!

Edmas 2013: Christmas in 6 Minutes (And 8 Seconds)

santaball.pngWell, here we are again. Another calendar year has gone by, sooo… MORE CHRISTMAS SONGS! This year’s batch is a nice mix of secular and sacred with lots of twists and just as many guest spots. But, since we can’t just ignore traditions, all of mine are in place – the “way too fast” song, the harmonized guitar lead, “holy crap”, and even that awesome crashing sound. This batch also marked a first for me – I had never recorded a slamming door until now. Overall, this was a fun set to make and I’m happy with the results. Enjoy!
